Suggestion of all my problems

Hi everybody,

These problems answered from my previous post, but I sorry to say that... it doesn't work later:

"There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive D:." : I found out later it is depend on the time of using, when it is used for second ago it will show this message. However, I think it isn't worst problem, just annoying me(In fact I want to get it off = =")

Next " USB Mass Storage Device is not working properly": The yellow sign makes the my flash drive or external drive cannot unplug with safety remove. So still it shows the light and it still in device and printer as the picture (This picture shows even I click safety remove). Also my laptop has this sign also and it said there is no Unknown Device.

I know it all the time it has something to do with Unknown Device, so....

1. Are these problem related to each other?

2. Where can I find the Unknown Device driver thing?

3. (Previous question) If this still visible on Device and Printer, if I pull my external drive out, will it damage my drive, both of them?

4. How to fix these problem?

Oh sorry, addition detail: I just format my laptop 2 days ago and these problem appear after format. Dell Studio Laptop 1558

Thank you

Pat,

The Dell System Software and the Intel Cantiga Chipset and the Ricoh Card Reader R5C833 need installed first.

Then install the...

Realtek RTL8111DL Ethernet Controller

Intel(R) WiFi Link 6200

and Dell QuickSet

Audio

IDT 92HD73C1 Audio and Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi MB

Video

Probably the Intel Video drivers

Intel Mobile Intel® Graphics Media  Accelerator HD

or

AMD ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4330 or AMD ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 / HD4200

Synaptics Synaptics TouchPad

This should get you online so you can download the other drivers you need.

Go to start, control panel, device manager and then look and see if you have any yellow exclaimination marks or red x's. Report back what needs installed.

The Free Agent Goflex Drive requires MORE POWER than the port you are plugging into supplies.

You need to use a USB 2.0 Hub with Wall adapter Power Or use a USB  Y cable that taps 2 usb ports for power.

It isn't only Free Agent Goflex, it is also other USB including Flash drive, my Mp3, and camera. They are all have same yellow sign and also my laptop. I think it is something about driver, not external tool.

However, thank you for suggestion :)

Hi Rick,

Thank you for all the links for solving problem, and yes I have tried all of them. Unfortunately, none of them work...

"Restoring Your Computer's Software to the Factory Settings": I have backup and follow the steps until step 3/6 (Click Dell Factory Image Restore). I had another choice said like "Recovery Image restore", so I thought it is same thing plus no other choices seem to close with. So I click and it's no longer same as in the note. I'm not sure I did it correct or not.

"How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order": I opened your link and it listed down the order, so all I know is to format (most favorite thing) and I start to follow that order. Every drivers work fine as usual except that Unknown Device again.

"How to Restore or Reinstall Microsoft Windows on a Dell Computer": As I looked at it I think it's same as formatting and reinstall window. So.... yeah, I have done it with "How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct order"

"Your CD or DVD Drive can't read or write media": It showed the problem has fix, but still it show that it could not detect the disc after eject.

And this is my addition of my problem: After I format just 1 minutes after format, the yellow sign (exactly same as 3rd picture) still there. So format, correct driver order, and restoring factory setting(need to determine the step) don't work for me. Also this figure shows up on my screen, but I can't post it. It said "This computer doesn't have processor with Intel Turbo Boost Technology capability. This application requires an Intel Core i7 processor, ~~~~~". It's like chipset with X red sign with words under "More information" which show that message. Is this involve with this problem?

P.S. Sorry for lated reply, I have problem with pressing F8 and have school too.

Pat,

Start, control panel, device manager. right click on the items with the yellow exclaimination marks, then left click uninstall.

Restart your computer. If the drivers are on your system, the new hardware wizard will install and correct the problem. If that doesn't work, the try updating the drivers for the device.

Hi Rick,

Thank you for all solution you find for me, but bad luck again, they didn't work.

I have tried the DVD problem and as you see in figure 1, it did show this message but still having problem.

And I have tried to delete that Unknown Device and it is gone, I look back in Device and Printer and the yellow sign is gone too, but not for external drive. But when I restart computer and it appears again.

After this process doesn't working, I tried to update the drivers for the device, no luck again.  I had update driver as you see figure 2 (Wow, 82 updates).

Figure 3 showed when I unplug the external drive and goes in the device manager. So I've never seen it so I took picture and show you so you mighy have some clue.

The last 2 figure, figure 4 and 5: I have told you about the chipset figure on my desktop (If I'm wrong about chipset figure.... sorry, I did guess on that one :P). Those are the figure that I have no idea with, so I showing you because it might has something to do with Unknown Device or USB Device.

Special Question: Since I post questions for answer, I have uploaded so many pictures. So I wonder is it spam or not?

Thank you,

Pat

Pat,

I see you recently installed the operating system. The Notebook system Utility and the chipse drivers need installed first or the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order

You need to install the notebook system utility, the chipset drivers, then go right down the list. The notebook syste,m utility know what is attached on this system and the chipset drivers also help. Not installing the drivers in order causes things like the usb ports, network adapters, webcams, just to name a few from not installing, causing the exclaimination marks yuou see in the device manager.

Rick,

Can you arrange the drivers for me? I'm not sure did I do it correct or not. I did by category, example if it say chipset I would install all drivers in chipset category, it might be some driver is incorrect in the category, I guess. However, I have tried to install utility first and chipset and follow by order and it failed.

Here is my product drivers: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=STUDIO1558&os=W764&osl=en&catid=&impid

Sorry to interrupt you again.

Rick,

I both have on my laptop figure in Devices and Printers and on Unknown Device in Device Manager. So I thought they might be involved each other.

Pat,

Make and model of your printer. If the printer is connected, disconnect the usb cable and see if it goes away.

Run Delete Print Jobs to remove and stuck print jobs in the queue.

Disconnect the printer.

Go to Device manager and see if the items are still there. If so, right click on them, then left click uninstall.

Restart your computer.

Please tell me the virus program and firewall you're using.
