Trouble with sound again Inspiron 5100

Sound is on when I boot, but goes off.  I've had this problem before.  I also have a cordless mouse.  The last time a user suggested something about the mouse interfering with the sound.  I did what he suggested and it worked.  However, I don't remember what it was; I didn't write it down.  Can someone help me?  Thanks.
