Dell Image Assist: How to include peripheral driver support

Dell’s Family Driver Packs do not include peripheral device drivers for add-in cards, dongles, docks, etc. In cases where additional drivers are needed for your deployment, here are ways to include additional drivers.

Peripheral driver support for Image Assist deployments works by adding .inf drivers to a folder which the process can use during plug & play in Windows setup.

  • Include additional drivers in the image: If including drivers within the image file, extract the required drivers to “C:\Out-of-Box Drivers”. The drivers will be used during plug & play in Windows setup.
  • Include additional drivers on the ImageAssist USB drive: If including drivers on the Image Assist USB drive, create a folder on the root of the NTFS data partition of USB drive named "__Additional_Drivers_Restore_OS__" and extract the required drivers there. Drivers in that folder will be copied to “c:\Out-of-Box Drivers" during deployment and used during plug & play in Windows setup.
  • Include additional drivers on a network share: If including drivers on a network share, a folder named "__Additional_Drivers_Restore_OS__" must exist in the root of the share you map to. Extract the required drivers to that folder. Drivers in that folder will be copied to “c:\Out-of-Box Drivers" during deployment and used during plug & play in Windows setup.
