Inspiron 3670, cannot update to a new stable GPU driver
Hello,
My specs-
Inspiron 3670
i5-8400
16gb 2666 ram
msi gtx 1060 6gb aero itx
fsp 450 sfx psu
windows 10 home (1803)
os build 17134.648
nividia driver 368.81 (7-14-2016)
A few days ago I upgraded the psu (dell 290) and gpu (gtx 1030).I used DDU in safe mode to do a clean install using new drivers. The new card worked fine browsing web and watching video. However running benchmarks or opening games produces artifacts ( shapes, lines, colors). Things I tried were to disable secure boot and enable legacy roms. Older driver versions which landed me in 2016,even 2017 drivers cause the artifacts under load. The card (1060) is preforming spectacular with the old driver.I just can not update the driver without the artifacts.
Help please.
Thanks
fireberd

Your specs say you're running Win 10 1803. That's one build behind the current build 1809.
Are you sure the new driver you've installed is compatible with build 1803 or only with build 1809?
Are you just trying to update the driver or did you Uninstall the video card in Device Manager, reboot and then install the new driver? Installing the new one 'on top' of an old one may not work correctly...

Hey, I am not sure if it is compatible with my version of windows. How can you tell?Everytime I tried to install a driver I used DDU in safe mode or clean install in custom installation.
At first I thought the artifacts were being caused by my psu or the adapter (24 to 8 pin). Then I tried a 2016(2017,2018..etc) driver just out of curiosity and the card is working perfectly (temp, core clock, memory clock, fan speed, load,HD audio). Why would it work so well with an old driver and not a new one?
I updated my os to 1809 and tried the newest nvidia driver but still the same artifacts.I also tried to down clock the gpu which had no effect.

Why are you using DDU at all? Seems like a waste of time and could cause problems.
Where are you getting the "newest" NVidia driver? Directly from NVidia's site or from MSI, since it's an MSI card?
It's entirely possible there's a bug in that "newest" NVidia driver. Wouldn't be the first time... Have you looked on the NVidia and/or MSI forums to see if others are complaining this driver?
IMHO, if the most recent "old" driver is working, leave it alone and get on with life!

Unless you got an EVGA 750B1 power supply the artifacts may be due to insufficient power. The other issue may be that this is a FAKE GT1060 card and thats why its not working correctly.

I thought about that after things went south (using DDU),it was recommended by Linus.
I am getting my drivers from nvidia site, msi only has one for my card from 3-20-2018.
I am having my problem (artifacts) from drivers from 2017 to 2019.Been posting on multiple forums with nothing helpful so far.I posted here thinking it might be a known issue as a result of upgrading an inspiron 3670 with non oem parts (power supply,24-8 pin adapter and gpu).
Next up is to flash the vbios ,except I can not find vbios for my card, waiting for msi to give me one.
If it ain't broke don't fix it,ha ha.

If you look closely the 3670 only uses the 12v rails.
The Video card uses 75W from the motherboard GPU Slot and 300W from the aux power connections.
This means 375W needed JUST FOR THE GPU.
Thats 32 AMPS for Just the GPU. The CPU and other things need at least 100W. Thats 8.5 Amps for the motherboard and 32 Amps for the GPU. AKA 41 Amps on the 12v side or 492 Watts. You have too little power.
FSP450-60GHS(85)-R1 is TOO SMALL.
http://www.sparklepower.com/pdf/PC/FSP450-60GHS85.pdf
this is why a 500W 80 percent Efficient EPS12v minimum power supply is recommended.
Anything smaller than 650W is going to have "issues".
Many have told me that the 750B1 is hard to find now
the EVGA 700B1 is however still available. 56A on the 12v rails not 18 max per rail.
