Inspiron 580, support Windows 10 operating system?

I have an old Inspiron 580 running win 7 home premium. I would like to install win 10 if the motherboard and other components will allow it. Can anyone answer this before I install new hard drive, and proceed?

I have Windows 10 running fine on much older systems.

Don't know if I have done any 580s but I have it on 470 and 660 series.

what's inside anyones guess.

580s is SFF and 580 is tower. guess is tower. no "S"

Intel H57 chipset ,.

10 years old today 2009 made(can be)

what CPU>?  it is generation  1 Core i3 530   the lack of number before 5 is gen 1

gen 2 is i3-2nnn on up.

gen 0 has no hope on any 64bit w10 ever.  hopeless gen 5 yes. fresh installed.

Westmere microarchitecture

64bit does not run on old gen CPU, ok?!!!

w10 32bit or 64, to different and radical different answers (support wise)

first off w10 is free to try for 30 days what holds you back from trying first?

IDK

or pop in a used $5 (free) old HDD, and load windows 10 for 30 days,  is this HARD? do tell why?

so w10-32bit,

on a PC 10 years old expect issues, many chips that old or older do not have w10 drivers, period

may makers of chips do not exist now or ended support after XP, Vista or W7,

if you looked on you dell page it told you. w7-64bit only, is max supported, clear as day.

https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/product/inspiron-580/drivers

what everyone does is try 32bit first, Gen 1, Cpu  only has 1 chance and that is 32bit. here.

try it an you tell us what fails and then we tell you how to fix that, by using chip makers driver or replacing the devices that fails.

The current Windows 10 1809 media will install on a machine with the " I dont have a key" option.

You then go online and activate using the KEY from the WINDOWS 7 COA.

Not supported does not mean not working.

Clean install onto new drive is recommended.

Driver page lists 2 machines.

Onboard audio , VIDEO and the Intel chipset drivers will have to be WIN7 drivers.

I've updated at least 40 machines the last couple months. Almost all OEM and majority being Dell. The free upgrade is still working. Just did one Friday.

can you elaborate that,

the PC has OEM license for w7,  at the most !!! (unless replaced with OTC w7 boxed OS retail)

so do tell how MS allows w7 COA on w10 , do tell that, all EARS.

That system should run Windows 10 64 Bit fine. You can download "Windows 10 Version 1809 Version 2" from Microsoft and clean install Windows 10 using your Windows 7 Home Premium Product Key. Note the system is an older model and has a Legacy BIOS. To address this the only thing you need to do is make sure you select the MBR Partition Scheme and NTFS format when making a Bootable USB. Before clean installing Windows 10, you may want to replace the Hard Drive in the system with a Solid State Drive as it'll run much better.

Will a solid state hard drive fit in the chassis where an internal spinner drive would fit?

This PC has a second slot for an extra hard drive..

Yes SSD will fit, with an adapter similar to https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-2-5-3-5-Adapter-Bracket/dp/B00GN9WC3A

I have on occasion secured the ssd with just 1 screw through an existing hole in the case, drilled extra holes in case to line up with the holes in the ssd, and even stuck some in with double sided velcro when I didn't have an adapter available.
