Inspiron 620 graphics update for 2020

Hi,

I want to put a graphics card in this old inspiron, so I can run a non vga monitor. I don't have any spare power connectors (running 3 hdds). The one I'm looking at draws 75watts through the slot, I have a 300watt power supply. This PC has been great and dependable.  Hopefully it can handle this?

NVIDIA GeForce GT 710 card.

GT710 can support up to 1280x720 resolution

GT730 up to 1366x768.

GTX745 up to 1600x900.

Have you read this thread and the links in that thread?

I had read some of those, put off by the replacement psu as I'm not doing that yet. Drilled deeper and there was one guy who put in just a graphics card similar to what I'm considering, so good advice. I did notice owners running more ram than I thought you could run with the i3?

Bookmarking some of the pages for later mods as i do like my 620.

@red6  - The specs say the Inspiron 620 supports up to 8 GB of 1333 MHz DDR3 non-ECC RAM. That means Dell validated this motherboard for 8 GB max.

That doesn't mean more RAM won't work, but Dell doesn't support more than 8 GB and won't be responsible if the PC won't boot or crashes with more than 8 GB installed.

Looks like the Inspiron 620 shipped with a Core i3-2120 CPU, which, according to Intel, supports up to 32 GB of RAM. So it all comes back to how much the motherboard will actually support, above what Dell validated...

EDIT: Be sure to confirm which Core i3 you actually have before making any decisions...

if I am not mistaken the max memory supported is not determined by cpu but by motherboard chipset and physically available DIMM slots.  the 620s is verified to support 16 gb. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Dell-Inspiron-620-SFF-512GB-SSD-16GB-RAM-Intel-Core-i5-2-8GHz-Quad-Core/143428957591?hash=item2165083597:g:L1sAAOSw1MNdxMXI

there is no major difference between 620 and 620s motherboard.  so 620 should support 2x8 GB ddr3 too.
