Freeezing issue with secondary storage drive

Hi,

I have a new Inspiron 5482 Laptop. It runs great until I install a 2.5" drive in the open slot for storage. Once the drive is added the computer will randomly freeze for 1-3 seconds, whether using windows, browsing, videos, etc. I'm not attempting to access the storage drive when it freezes. The mouse doesn't move and this occurs even when I'm just scrolling in windows settings. The freezing occurs probably 5-6 times an hour.

I narrowed the freezing issue to the storage drives by leaving the drive disconnected for several days and do not experience any freezing. When installed the freezing begins.

The freezing occurs regardless of the drive type and data on the drive. I've tried new SSD with no data and HDD with no data. The freezing occurs with both. All drivers are current and no issues are detected with the drives.

No freezing issues occur when the drives are attached via USB.

Bios/registry is updated and clean.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The following link may help. It could be that the SATA cable is bad as well.

Thank you for the reply. I agree that unless others have the issue it's likely related to the cable or the motherboard.
