G5 15 5590 - Hard drive Upgrade options?

Hey,

So I Wanted to upgrade my hard drive. I have the Dell G5 15 5590, 16gb RAM, I7-8750H, 128gb m.2 SSD, 1tb 5400RPM Mechanical drive.

According to the documentation, it can only handle up to 2tb 5400k mechanical, or 1tb Hybrid drive. Looking at other Dell manufacturers (third party) they can include Hybrids up to 2tb, and SSD up to 6tb.

So is the documentation just in regards to Dell branded upgrades, or is there a hardware or software limitation?

Just looking to get a 2TB Hybrid in there at the moment, don't want to invest before I know if it'll work.

Any support would be GREATLY appreciated.

Per Crucial guaranteed compatible drives the 5590 can have up to a 1 TB NVME/PCIe SSD and a 2 TB 2.5"SSD. I would not suggest a Hybrid drive as an SSD vastly outperforms the Hybrid and the SSD cost is very competitive vs the Hybrid.

I've just upgraded the 1TB Toshiba 5400RPM original stock drive to the 2TB Seagate Firecuda [same speed], with no problems.
