Intel HD Graphics 4000 device driver blocked Code 48

17R 5720

Intel HD Graphics 4000 device blocked from starting
"Contact the hardware vendor for a new because it is known to have problems with Windows.  (Code 48)"

Is the latest driver version 10.18.10.4338. No functional display app, and no multiple displays detected...

January 18th, 2019 12:00

I had the same problem with drivers version 10.18.10.5059. Microsoft Surface Pro (2013) is affected. Win+P display options were not available. I solved my problems in a similar way like liciousuk.

  1. Disable Core isolation | Memory integrity.
  2. Remove the Intel(R) HD  device with drivers.
  3. Restart Windows.
  4. Wait for Windows Update to install drivers version 10.18.10.4252.

It is not possible to enable Core isolation | Memory integrity due to driver incompatibility, but Win+P display options are available.

Hope this will help others.

Hi Dajbych & liciousuk

Did disable Core isolation | Memory integrity, but had to wait for the 1/9/2019 v1809 cumulative Update to do a successful Intel Graphics 4000 driver 10.18.10.5059 to install. Yes, was not able to re-enable the Core isolation | Memory integrity. Yes, did enable the Extend display for my two monitors.

Thanks folks.

For those with older Dell computers I found this link of value to update many drivers: http://m.majorgeeks.com/content/page/code_48_the_software_for_this_device_has_been_blocked_from_star...

Hi JOcean,

I did go to your link (and replied a couple days ago-not sure why it did not post). Anyway a great site, and years ago went to majorgeeks.

The problem is not the Intel driver. DriveBooster indicated it was current. The problem is Windows v1809 blocks most Intel HD Graphics 4000 devices.

See my (DonnerJack9) reply and others regarding Intel HD Graphics 4000. Will stay in touch regarding Win 10 v1809 blocking device drives via Code 48

If you have Windows 10 version 1809 installed on the affected laptop using Intel HD Graphics 4000, try to downgrade or go back to the previous build of Windows 10, which is version 1803

The 1809 version of Win10 has had a ton of problems when it was first released though some of them are documented here (and some of the problems with v1809 have been fixed with certain updates to it):

Sounds like reinstalling the dell customized driver for your model computer will replace the bad Intel driver that is causing the problems. Go to Dell Drivers and Downloads to go back to your original drivers.

No Mary, and to others with this problem, the installed drive Intel HD Graphics 4000 device driver was the Dell 10.18.10.4338 ,A01 release Dec 2015 and was working in November, but was block with Code 48 w/ the install of Wins ver 1809.

I did an uninstall of the Intel HD Graphics 4000 device driver 10.18.10.4338 ,A01 and reinstalled. Same results, Code 48. Went to Intel and did a hardware scan: they recognized my Inspiron 17R 5720 and a newer Intel HD Graphics 4000 10.18.10.5059 8/16/2018. Again, uninstalled old and reinstalled this driver. Same resulted blocked known problem with Windows Code 48. At this moment I have reverted back to old Dell ver 10.18.10.4338 ,A01. Still w/ code 48.
