Intel(R) Smart Sound Technology (Intel(r) SST) OED error Code 10 on Inspiron 14 5000 2-in-1

Hi, Its been over an year since I bought Dell Inspiron 14 5000 2-in-1, I never had the issue. But suddenly my mic stopped working on both pc and headphone I connected, I checked on device manager, it says,

Intel(R) Smart Sound Technology (Intel(r) SST) OED

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Failed to load external libraries.

I have tried to uninstall the drivers and restart my pc, it still doesn't fix the problem. I have tried dozens of method but the problem continues. My speakers are working fine but my mic are not working. If anyone have a solution please don't hesitate to pass along.

Yes, I have found a solution.

First of all, go to device manager.

Then right click on Intel(R) Smart Sound Technology (Intel(r) SST) OED.

Click on uninstall the driver and make sure you check the box that says delete the driver software for the device, then uninstall.

Restart the pc.

It worked for me and I hope it will work for you too.

Worked wonders!!!  Thank you so much.  Have been trying to figure this out since exactly the same date of the post 5/20/21.  Not sure WHY or WHAT was the cause, but I noticed there was an system update just the day before.  FINALLY, a resolution.  Thanks a million and best thing is I didn't have to pay the Geek Squad to fix it.

So I had same problem on a Inspiron 5491 2 in 1, just a bit to add ,...

  1. Go to Device manager - right click driver with issue , Un- install and delete driver
  2. Restart PC you will notice speaker now has a red X , no driver installed
  3. Install realtek driver dated 26/08/2020, 6.0.8984.1.A02
  4. To do this follow link below select audio , beside download click down arrow.
  5. Select older drivers , box will open with version above
  6. Install driver 6.0.8984.1.A02, says restart is required but don't need to do it
  7. Mic will now work

After the in-place update to Windows 20H2, In my case, updating the BIOS to the latest version did the trick, on my Precision 5530.
I have also installed the latest Realtek sound driver from the Dell laptop's support page.

Resolution

  • Perform a cold reboot (hold the power button until the PC powers off and then power on the NUC) the Intel NUC. If problem persists, continue to next step.
  • Update to the latest Realtek* High Definition audio driver.
  • Update to the latest BIOS version.
  • Restore BIOS factory defaults:
    • Press F2 during boot to enter BIOS Setup.
    • Press F9 to set factory defaults.
    • Press F10 to save and exit BIOS Setup.

Did you follow instructions I put on to the letter?

Use fix below

Use Regedit and change key below

01) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\controlSet001\Services\HDAudBus

Modify REG_DWORD "Start" and set it to 3

Go back into computer management >>> device manager and uninstall the "high definition audio controller"

Scan for hardware changes and it should pick up the generic driver and audio should work again.
