What affects of incorrectly plugged-in AC adapter on laptop?

Today while listening to music with in-ear headphones, the laptop battery was going down. So, when I plugged-in AC adapter (somehow incorrectly) to my laptop, I get an interference sound (crunch sound) in my headphones and an AC adapter warning on my screen. I really want to know if this incident affected my Laptop or Laptop battery....Please reply as immediate as possible.

Inspect the adapter and the adapter port on the laptop for any damage. If that looks ok then you can run dell diagnostics just to be sure all is well. Restart the computer, when you see the Dell splash screen start tapping F12. Then when the menu comes up run diagnostics. You can get that adapter warning if the adapter is not plugged in all the way. Is everything working properly now? If so, not to worry.

Thanks for your support JOcean. It passes all the tests in diagnostics.
