Symlinks appearing as directories when mounting with smb protocol higher then 1

Seen on Isilon version 7.

On one filer if we mount with smb version 1.0 then symlinks appear as directories and not symlinks.  When we mount with smb version 2.0 or higher then we see symlinks.

On another filer no matter which version we mount with the symlinks appear as directories.

I'm guessing there is an Isilon property that is causing this behavior.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Kate, can you login directly to support.emc.com and use search to access the article?

Sometimes removing old cookies from emc.com helps.

Only some parts of the KB article are "Windows" specific, but it also

gives and in-depth backgound of symlinks in SMBs and pre-SMB2 protocols

plus related quirks and tweaks in OneFS, such as

isi_gconfig registry.Services.lwio.Parameters.Drivers.onefs.SMB2Symlinks

It is definitely a good starting point for understanding symlinks

with other SMB/SMB2 clients connected to an Isilon.

I don’t understand what you want to achieve.

See the symlinks as symlinks or as directories?

The “Filer” are Isilons or Clients?

sluetze I'm sorry my question wasn't clear.

I would like to see the symlinks as symlinks -- but assuming whatever the setting is I can flip it either way.

The filer is Isilon.

Hi Peter,

I'm unable to view that link, getting "We can't log you in. Check for an invalid assertion in the SAML Assertion Validator (available in Single Sign-On Settings) or check the login history for failed logins."

In any case this is not an issue with a windows client.  I'm mounting the emc share from a centos host and seeing this behavior.

Thanks for your help,

Kate

Thank you Peter!  I finally got access to the kb article and this was exactly the information that I was looking for.
