Hello. Normally, to restart services, you go to Start>Run and type "services.msc" (without quotes) then hit the 'Enter' key (or click 'ok'). The Services window will appear. Scroll down until you find "Windows Audio"  towards the bottom of the list. Check that it is enabled, set to automatic, and running. If it isn't, double click on it and change the Startup type to Automatic, then click Start, Apply, and OK.

Repeat for Endpoint Builder.

Sometimes just re-installing the audio driver will reactivate the services.

If you still have trouble with it, reply back and describe in detail the particular circumstances surrounding the failure. Also be sure to mention which operating system is on the laptop.

Hello. I just saw the new thread you started, where you wrote "I can't access a screen showing windows audio by searching "services msc"".

Note that there should be a period in "services.msc". After you type that into the Windows search/run box, services.msc appears at the top of the list. Click on that.

Here is a screen shot of Services in Windows 7.

To reply within a thread, instead of starting a new thread each time, click on the Reply button after you type some text into the text box. Or optionally, you can click on "use rich formatting" and then type in the text. This latter option gives you a toolbar that allows you to include screen shots, links, formatting, etc.

Another way to open Services is through the Windows Control Panel:

Start>Control Panel>View by Category>System & Security>Administrative Tools>Services

-- or --

Start>Control Panel>View by Icons>Administrative Tools>Services

When you locate a stopped service and click on its name, the word "start" will appear in the left corner. If clicking on start doesn't restart the service, then there is a problem somewhere.

If you cannot start the services, try using Windows System Restore (type system restore in the Windows search/run box). If there is a restore point dated before the audio stopped, use it. Windows will undo certain changes to the system configuration that have occurred since that date, which might fix the problem.

If Windows System Restore doesn't help, try re-installing the audio driver again. You say that Windows 7 is on your Latitude D800, but Win7 is not supported on that model. Dell never had a Win7 audio driver created for it, and there is no native audio driver in Win7 for the type of audio hardware on the motherboard. The laptop probably originally had XP and that OS did have a native driver for that type of audio hardware (it was a type called AC97 that hasn't been used on motherboards for the last 10 or 11 years).

The way to install an audio driver is to download the Sigmatel R90698 audio driver, which was for Windows XP and Vista 32-bit, but install it using compatibility mode.

1. Download and save the audio driver to your desktop or any convenient location on the hard drive.
2. Double click on the new folder to extract (unzip) the driver files.
3. The extractor wizard will create a new folder for the driver files. It will be at "c:\dell\drivers\xxxxxx". Write down the exact location that the wizard creates.
4. If the driver begins to install automatically, halt (cancel) the installation.
5. Browse to the driver files on the hard drive (the location you wrote down).
6. Find the "setup.exe" file.
7. Right click on setup.exe to open the context menu.
8. Select the Properties.
9. Select the Compatibility tab.
10. Check the box "run this program in compatibility mode for"... Vista"

If installing the audio driver that way does not fix the problem, let me know. There might have been failure of the audio chip on the motherboard.
