Brand New Laptop Spacebar Problem

I just opened up my new laptop and I've noticed that the spacebar doesn't always work if you hit it around the edges. Is this normal or is there something wrong with my unit? I'm switching over from a much older Dell and it didn't have this problem, but it also had a different style keyboard.

I went to pop off the key covering like I used to on my old Dell to see what was going on, but it felt like something was going to break so I ended up leaving it on.

Help, please. I'm hoping I don't have to bring this anywhere and there's just a simple fix.
