Computer not staying on

The issue i am having with my dell latitude E6420 is that when it is plugged in the computer remains on. when the power supply cable is unplugged it suddenly turns off. the battery has been replaced with a new one and the issue is still occurring.  any suggestions as to what might be causing this issue?

You purchased a genuine Dell battery that compatible with the system ?

In the meantime, I'd suggest you power off notebook, disconnect AC adapter and all Peripherals. Remove battery, press "Power On" button for 15 seconds, and then release. Replace battery, AC adapter, and then power on system. Hopefully battery is being charged now.

You can also try uninstalling/reinstalling the battery in Device Manager:

1. Press the windows key plus X key at the same time [windows 10 ?]

2. Click on Device Manager, and then expand the Battery category.

3. Right click the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery, and then uninstall

4. On the Device Manager taskbar, click on Action, and then Scan For Hardware Changes.
