D1000 dock and Inspiron 15 7559's HDMI port

Hi,

I just purchased an Inspiron 15 7559, intending to use it with one of the more classic docking stations, only to discover it doesn't have a docking port (my fault for not doing more research). I am looking to run 3 monitors total, two DVI and one VGA.

I first looked at the D3100 with triple monitor support, but I'd need to purchase that plus a DisplayPort to VGA adapter. Next, I see the D1000 which has VGA and HDMI for dual monitor support. My question is this: Can I use the D1000 with the Inspiron 15 7559 and will I still be able to use the laptop's built-in HDMI port to achieve three external monitors.

I appreciate any help. Thanks,

Ryan

Read through the D1000 User's Guide. Then open the D1000 setup guide.

The D1000 is connected to the laptop USB. See step 3. So the laptop HDMI out port is free to use on another monitor via an HDMI to DVI cable.

Laptop USB 3.0 out --> USB 3.0 I/O cable --> D1000 USB 3.0 in
D1000 HDMI out --> HDMI to DVI cable --> Monitor #1 DVI in
D1000 VGA out --> VGA to VGA cable --> Monitor #2 VGA in
Laptop HDMI out --> HDMI to DVI cable --> Monitor #3 DVI in
