Dell 5559 - where is the 'Line In' option?

I have been trying to record using the new laptop under Windows 10, but it seems the only option is by microphone.

On my old Inspiron under Windows 7 I could use  Line-In function, but this doesn't seem to be an option now. I've also been told that Del has put a hardware block that wold prevent this happening. Is that right, and is there any way around the problem?

There is no block, there just is not a port for line in. The Inspiron 5559 has a single headset port (aka a "combo" port), and that kind of port does not support line in -- not even with an adapter

Dell has shifted its audio priority away from creating audio to communicating with audio. I guess communication sells better. To get line in functionality on that machine you need to buy a usb audio interface that has a line in port.
