Dell Display Manager, U3014 Monitor and Pro2x docking station.

Jump to solution

Hi. I work from home, have 2 U3014 monitors and a work laptop connected via the e-port plus2 pro2x. Everyhting works fine, but I want a shortcut to dell display manager so I can EASILY switch to my home computer on 1 one of the two monitors.

The shortcut works GREAT on my home PC, but the Dell Display manager on my laptop keeps giving me this error:

"This program requires a supported Dell monitor, and connection, and compatible display driver." So, since Dell Display manager is not working properly- the shortcut is not working either.

Can this work? I hate that it takes me 15 steps to switch monitors every time I want to switch computers. It was annoying before with my old monitors when I just had to click the correct input source button. 🙂 This is intolerable.

I take it that you are using Dell Display Manager to set up an “Easy Arrange” profile for both the desktop and the notebook, and that you don’t have a problem when using the desktop and the DVI connection, but the Easy Arrange profile doesn’t work using display port connections and the docking station on the notebook, does that seem right to you?

Something like this may work with another desktop where you are connecting the different displays directly to the GPU.   I don’t see Dell Display manager working that way with the monitors actually connected to a docking station instead of the notebook.  It may work if you connect the notebook directly to one monitor assuming that you have the proper connections on the notebook to do so.

I wish that I had better news for you but for the notebook I can only suggest using the OSD menu on the display to switch between systems.

When I first read your post I was a little confused on how you had both the home and work system connected to the docking station.  I am assuming that the home system is a notebook as well and you are simply swapping out the two systems on the docking station.  If you are just swapping out two notebooks, the display should automatically switch to the new system, no need of a button.

Please reply back if you have some other type of setup where you are actually connecting two systems to the same pair of monitors, please include any other equipment that you are using to be able to connect both systems at once.

My home PC is a Studio tower. It is connected to the left monitor via DVI.

The docking station for my work laptop is connected to the Mini-Display ports on both the monitors.

Display manager works properly on my home PC, it does NOT work properly on my work laptop.

Terry,

Yeah- my shortcut is to a batch file that just calls the DDM.exe with the parameters to switch the ports. It's awesome going from my home pc to the laptop. But the docking station is a bigger convenience than having to switch monitors manually.

I found out how to change the shortcuts on the monitor inputs, so I've got it down to a two step process, so it's not much worse than before. I know- I'm lazy. 🙂 I just hate reaching across my desk lol.

Thanks Terry.
