Dell Inspiron 1545 blue screen of death

I've had my laptop for a few years and recently a message telling me to get a new battery because mine 'had reached the end of it's rechargeable life' kept appearing when i logged in. Now when i turn my laptop on this blue screen appears with lots of white writing on it. I've taken the battery out and switched it on with only the charger plugged in and the same screen keeps appearing. Think it's time I got a new laptop but would just like to get all my files off my laptop due to precious pictures, videos, uni work etc.. Any help would be appreciated.

Remove the hard drive, mount it in an external case (see example below) and attach it to the new system or another working system by USB.  Copy the files you need.

There's a relatively high probability the root cause is a bad hard drive - so don't delay making that backup.

You'll need something like this
