Dell XPS 12 - SM Bus Controller driver

Hi all,

After re-installing Windows 8.1 on my XPS 12 laptop, I cannot find a driver for the "SM Bus Controller" device.

I used Dell's System Detect software to install the latest graphics and chipset drivers. Each time I run web detection it recommends the "Intel Management Engine Interface Driver (Chipset_Driver_KG6NF_WN_10.0.28.1006_A02)", which I've installed (multiple times) and rebooted. The device remains unknown to Windows.

Hardware IDs:

Thanks

Hi bhm777,

SM Bus Controller is related to Chipset. Reinstall the Chipset driver on the system. Please enter your service tag # on the link below, select the OS, then download the chipset driver from chipset section onto the system and install it.

Please refer to the Video and document in links below for installing the drivers in correct order.

Please let me know if this helps.

Hi Ravi,

Thanks for your reply.

I ended up manually installing the "Intel Lynx Point Chipset Driver" (Chipset_Intel_W8.14_X01_A00_Setup_J7HVX_ZPE.exe) from Dell's website.

I'm not sure why Dell's system analysis software did not recommend it.

After rebooting, I've confirmed in the device manager that the device has been installed.
