F8 Key
Hi. Hope someone can help.I have a Dell Studio 1555 laptop. I am tryiing to do a factory restore.It says to press f8 on boot up but nothong happens.Also to boot into safe mode it also says to press f8 on boot up.Surely this f8 key can't do both.Can someone plese set me straight.Thanks.

I should also say that nothing happens when I press the F8 key.It just boots normaly to windows.

Thanks for your answer.can you tell me how to boot up in safe mode.I am running Win 7 Pro. Alos how can I tell if the partition is still there?.Thanks for your help.

F8 should bring up a boot menu. If you don't see the "repair" option, then the quick restore is gone - you can still use it if you haven't removed the partition, but you'll need to boot from a DVD containing the same version of Windows as is on your system in order to do so.

F8 for me brings up the Safe Mode options, and F12 brings up the boot menu. Pressing these buttons is always hit and miss...trick is to start pressing them before the dell logo appears.

If F8 doesn´t work, you can try changing the options in msconfig to boot in safe mode. This doesn´t solve the F8 problem, but it allows you to boot in safe mode.

Turn it off. Take battery out. Discharge. Plug USB keyboard in. Put battery back. Plug into wall. Press F8 repeatedly on the external keyboard after you see the Dell logo.
