Hard disk crash

Hi, mine is XPS L502X laptop taken 1 yr back, recently its started hanging the pc, when I shown in dell service center they told its hard disk failure because of multiple formats. is it really hard disk crashes because of multiple formats? I am using HARD DRIVE,1 TB,5.4,P11,S MSNG-M8. and also please guide me which hard drive I need to replace in my xps laptop(XPS L502X,15 inch.) .
