Hard disk failure inspiron 5520

My daughter's Inpsiron 5520 hard disk failed. The laptop had come with win8 and was running win8.1 and was in good shape before the failure. Diagnostics from the ePSA or whatever said - replace the drive. Needless to say, we did not make any backup media.

Fortunately I had a WD black scorpio 2.5" drive to hand and set to installing that. Quick job, I thought.

However, as I tried to install Win8.1 I got a message (attached) that stated that a media driver was missing.

I went onto the support site, downloaded every driver I could find, put them on a USB stick and tried to install, unsuccessfully. It just won't go past the first step of the win8.1 install. I also went to the WD website to see if there was something there, but found nothing helpful.

Does anyone know which driver is supposedly missing?

Alternatively, anyone have any better idea of how to deal with this problem?

Thanks in advance for any help.
