Inspiron 3542 Won't shut down all the way
My laptop will not shut down all the way. Every time I shut down, my laptop will hold a charge in RAM. You can here a small whine from the RAM card after shutdown. Unless I take out the battery it will keep going. Also, sometimes my laptop will not wake up from sleep after opening the lid. I have to do a hard reset and run the check disk utility to take care of file system errors. This has been going on for about 6 months. Any ideas anyone?

So far it worked. But then again, the problem was sporadic. I searched the web several months back. Turned out it's not affecting just Dells. Reports of the same thing happened to HP and Toshiba laptops as well. That was mainly concerning the problem with the laptop not waking from sleep and having to do a hard reset. So Intel may need to do something about the driver.
