Installing a non-Dell copy of Windows 8 on XPS L521x

Let me first state that the warranty has expired. Now what I want to do is get rid if the dell branded Windows 8 and all the bloatware that came with it. I have a drivers and utilities DVD and I requested a windows 8 recovery media kit from Dell while in warranty. I also have a boxed copy of Windows 8 Pro when I try to boot with those discs the "press any key to boot from CD" message comes up and when I press it the windows 8 setup screen comes up I select my language and so on but when I click install now I get the message that setup is loading then a window pops up asking for some sort of driver I put the drivers and utilities disc in but can't get it to point at it. I wanted to get rid of all of the partitions and put just a clean Windows 8 installation on it. I upgraded to 8.1 and ever since I can't get a YouTube video to play full screen without the video freezing completely or video freezes but audio works not to mention other issues so I am thinking that there is something with the dell OEM Windows 8 and one or more of the software programs that are incompatible with Windows 8.1. Dell has the blasted thing locked down tighter than Fort Knox. I have never had problems doing this on Windows 7 machines and earlier.

The configuration of the system I have as far as drives go are as follows blu ray drive, 750GB mechanical hard drive, and 32GB SSD. I wonder if the driver error I am getting has tondo with the way the system is setup. In Windows only two drives show up in computer one OS C: and the blu ray drive does the OS sit on that SSD and the hard drive only used for programs and files? I know there is some software that is on the computer called Intel rapid storage.

Hi gbcmedia2012,

Systems shipped with smaller SSD drives can be configured with Intel Smart Response Technology to be used as a cache device for conventional hard drive for faster operations using Intel Smart Response Technology (ISRT).

You may install the operating system on the mechanical hard drive and use the 32GB SSD drive for caching.

Refer to the link http://dell.to/1aL3oRI for steps on how to install Windows on system with SSD and ensuring ISRT is enabled.

The Rapid Storage driver should be copied to a USB memory key. Refer to the link http://dell.to/Hlf9aw to download the Rapid Storage driver.

Hope this helps. Please feel free to reply for any further assistance.
