Laptop for photographers

Windows 7 64-Bit

At least 6GB RAM, 8 if you can afford it

A 1 or 1.5 TB drive, mirrored – that’s 2 drives paired together for fault tolerance

A dedicated external (or another single internal drive) for backups

In theory, nice - however, there aren't many notebooks that will take a terabyte drive (they're all 12.5 mm high, so they don't fit into very many notebook chassis).

If your livelihood is dependent on one computer. Then forget it it. Whatever make or model you buy, make sure you have some sort of bullet proof alternative storage you can easily back up your images to before your erase the camera memory card. And then arrange a backup for the backup.
