Latitude E6400 DVD Drive fail w/Pre-Windows 7 Install firmware update

Just tried to install Windows 7 on my Latitude E6400.  Got no optical drive driver and prompted to install 3rd party driver.  Went to Dell driver updates and downloaded firmware update.  Now my drive won't work at all on my Vista OS.  Not happy with this situation at all.  Seems like Dell should be more on top of this.  Anyone got a solution?
