M6400 fan noise

The fans of my M6400 are quite noisy, and are on quite frequently.

This is even though it is cool in my room and I am not running the laptop hard at all.

As it is, it is quite inconvenient.

My Dell D810 is much quieter. So is my Dell M6300, which is also a high performance 17" laptop

Is there a way to slow down the fans or to let the system ran a bit hotter so that the fans don't kick in so often?
