Memory compatibility for Dell Inspiron 1720

Hi, I have a friend who has Dell Inspiron 1721 Laptop. Windows Vista 32bit. From looking at the manual it says the compatible memory is DDR2 PC2-6400 667Mhz. When I looked at the upgrade page after entering the service tag the available memory upgrade states the 800Mhz version. Can someone tell me if the laptop will accept this version or would it be safer to buy the PC2-5300 667Mhz modules? Thanks in advance. James

DDR2-800 should simply downclock to the proper speed.   If you want a guarantee of compatibility, try Crucial.com or Kingston's KTD RAM - both of which are tested and guaranteed to work with specific systems.

Thanks for the response, I thought that might be the case. Good idea, I will certainly try that. Many thanks
