Precision M6400 memory compatibility

Hi, I've got installed 2 x Crucial 2GB DDR3 1066MHz/PC3-8500 Laptop Memory SO-DIMM CL7 1.5V.

I 'm trying to replace them by 2 x Kingston 4GB 1333mhz DDR3 Non-ecc Cl9 - Sodimm Sr X8 (DDR3, 1.35V, CL9, FBGA, Gold)

With the new memories the Capslock keeps blinking and no boot. I've tried using slots A & D as per recommended in some post and also each one alone in A but always get blinking capslock.

Is that Kingston memory incompatible? If so, which parameters should I check for a replacement?

Thanks,

Rodrigo.

Hi Rodrigo,

The Dell Precision M6400 system has 4 SODIMM slots. The system accepts a memory capacity ranging from 1GB, 2GB and 4GB. The memory type accepted is DDR3 1066 MHz SODIMM only. The computer supports a maximum of 16GB of memory when installed with four 4GB DIMMs. The system would not accept different clock speed other than 1066 MHz.

I am finding ram all over the place being sold to fit the M6400 with higher bus speed, so I am confused.  Are you saying that this laptop ONLY takes 1066/8500 ram, or since the poster had 1066/8500 that additional ram had to be 1066/8500?

I am attempting to upgrade mine and it has 1066/8500, so I need to be clear. thanks

Just wanted to add info for those who have the same machine I do. m6400. Dell supports 12gb MAX, with 64bit os, BUT only supports 16gb with 32bit OS. I read that at Dell's website.

Ravi-BC, Please confirm.... Thanks. I also have installed two 4gb crucial 12800 ddr3 sticks, but only at 1.35v, the others are 1.5v AND the performance fell! after switching out the 2x4 gb 10600 sticks of ram to 5.8, versus 6.1! Why the decrease? Wrong slot? I will try swapping slots in the am...??
