Radeon Pro WX 4130 with 2GB GDDR5 card for Dell Laptops?

Hello Dell,

I see that new Precision series ships with Radeon Pro WX 4130 and WX 4150 graphic cards.

Is there any way to order one of these cards directly through Dell?

I'm curious if these cards are compatible with older Precision M4600 laptop.

M4600 works with AMD FirePro M5100 card.... I imagine it will work with newer WX 4130 card as well?

Please confirm this for me.

Thanks in advance,

You'd have to call Dell Spare Parts for a price;  these cards use a newer format (MXM-A) that's smaller than the older MXM 3, so it's possible they may not fit your system. I don't think Dell would make any guarantees - you'd have to pay your money and try.

Thanks for your response.

Dell M4600 is using that smaller MXM-3.0a cards...

Is MXM-A completely different from MXM-3.0A ? I would like to see picture comparison.

It would be nice to find out if M4600 is compatible with this new AMD card or not.

MXM-A is not completely different but the cards are appreciably smaller.  Try wikipedia - it has the specs.

The default answer on compatibility is no - the BIOS in the system isn't written to recognize the new cards.  It may or may not be possible to get one to work - but the system isn't designed for the new cards -- and short of trying (or finding someone who can demonstrate having done so), it's a trial and error exercise.

Since the M4600 won't even take all the video cards from the later M6700 and M6800 systems, I think the answer to support is  vastly more likely to be no than yes.

There's no newer MXM-A card.

en.wikipedia.org/.../Mobile_PCI_Express_Module

MXM-A is the MXM-3.0A. There's no upgrade for this since it came out.

"2nd generation configurations (MXM 3)

MXM-A 82mm 70mm A A 55W 64-bit or 128-bit"

All cards from 2017 are based on MXM-3A or 3B which some people just writes as MXM-A or MXM-B.

Dell M4600 uses the same MXM-A card slot.. and FirePro M5100 (compatible with M4600) is based on the same MXM-A card slot. If Radeon Pro, which is an upgraded FirePro, is the same MXM-A card, I think maybe it could work on M4600...

I think the odds are very slim - given that successor cards from M6700 and M 6800 systems do not work with the M4600 system, but you're free to try.  The cards are not inexpensive - they can easily top $1,000 -- so you're going to be making a big gamble.

Yeah... that's quite expensive for just a graphic card.

This card is surely enticing.

I'd wait till it shows up on Ebay. Maybe that's 4 years from today.
