Somebody Help please

Recently (may 2014) my Dell inspiron n5010 (purchased in july 2011; currently out of warranty) started having problems. On pressing the power button after sometime the display started flashing a  weird checkerboard pattern (as shown in screenshots below) with the computer freezing. I tried connecting an external display but the results were the same. Can somebody help me with this issue.
