This Device cannot find enough free resources that it can use (error 12)

I have an old Dell 1710 XPS laptop running Windows XP sp3 that I will using to rescue data off some old SCSI drives before disposal.  I installed a Adaptec SCSI Cardbus card using a cardbus to PCexpress adapter.

I encountered an error with the SCSI adapter: "This Device cannot find enough free resources that it can use (error 12)".  I have read various threads on diagnosing this problem, though stuck trying to find the conflicting hardware since the other devices on the are not reporting any problems.

Is there a way to locate an Irq, memory address that is free and could be set manually?

What other hardware could I disable to alleviate the conflict?

One thing I would absolutely do is update the BIOS.
