Uneven backlight or screen uniformity issue on Latitude E7470

On my new Latitude E7470, I have noticed a slight variation in colour temperature or tint on the left and right sides of the screen, more so on the left. It is not severe by any means, but definitely noticeable when, for example, editing two word documents side by side. See pic below:

I guess what I'm asking is: is this normal? If not, can I expect it to be fixed with a screen replacement?

Thanks.

Hi WHYEYE,

Could you check for any smudges on either sides?

Update the BIOS - http://dell.to/230F8rH

Restart the system and press f2 key to enter BIOS - check if the distortion is seen in BIOS environment.

Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us. While on it, check for the discoloration or distortion.

Check if the issue is seen on the LCD test - Run the LCD bist - Turn off the system and press and hold the "D" key + power button to turn on the system and it should run the LCD built in self test - see this link for more info - http://dell.to/1SkXNrG

Connect an external monitor and check if the issue is seen on both the LCD and the external monitor.

Check Windows Color Calibration - http://bit.ly/23qpfyD

Check Windows Color Management -> reset to defaults - http://bit.ly/1UIA7QS

Hi Rishi,

Thanks for your suggestions. BIOS is already latest version.

I'm actually not sure whether this is a real issue, or if I'm simply being too picky. The issue is not all that apparent on any other colour except pure whites. Below is a picture of what it looks like with an all-white background. This is the same as what is seen during the LCD test. Clearly the centre portion of the screen is whiter than the outer sections. I guess all I really want to know is if this is normal or not.

Hi WHYEYE,

Thank you for the update.

Well, could you kindly check if the external monitor works fine?

Also, have you tried the other steps mentioned in my post?

Lastly, could this be your perception?

If the external monitor works fine, then the issue could be with the LCD. Write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details(Name and Email), so I could check the warranty options for you.

Let us know if you have any other queries.

Hi,

I have the same problem with my E7470 backlight uniformity. Is there any chance for a solution within ProSupport?

Thanks,

Viktor
