Upgrade Ram from 4GB to 8GB on XPS 14 (L421x)

HI,

I'm looking to upgrade the memory on my XPS 14 (L421x).

I've looked at a few guides (including the Dell manual) but I wanted to ask if I actually have to remove the speakers and battery to do the upgrade?

They aren't in the way of the memory module so if i simply disconnect the battery and purge any remaining power in the system, is it really necessary to remove the battery?

Thanks

If it's not in the way, just unplug it from the mainboard - that's enough.

Hi, yes I agree but the battery would be disconnected anyway, so I don't understand why it would need to come out.

You absolutely should never install memory without disconnecting the power and removing the battery - with the battery connected, the system is live and you can indeed damage it if you try to upgrade memory.

The other components are OK to leave in if they don't block access to the memory modules, but the battery should come out.
