Upgrading the RAM for Studio 1558

Hi friend,

I have a Studio 1558 laptop with 4GB of RAM, which not too much, So I want now it to upgrade.

My question is that, what is the maximum limit of RAM supported  by may Studio 1558 laptop?

If possible then I would like to upgrade with 16 or 8 GB. Please suggest.

Thanks and best regards,

Supriya Ghosh

Hi supriyo.mca,

Per slot the maximum capacity is 4 GB. Hence 4GB * 2 would work.

Thanks Harsish, for answering. One thing I have in mind, do I need to purchase one 8 GB RAM or two 4 GB GB RAMs?

Also bear in mind that to use more than 4G you must have a 64-bit operating system.

I do have 64 bit machine... If this is the case then is it possible to have more than 4 GB RAM for each slot?

Hi supriyo.mca,

It should, but ask the vendor about compatibility.

Having 64-bit hardware is not enough - you must also have a 64-bit operating system.

yes I do have 64 bit OS.

The Crucial 8 GB kit will be the best upgrade for this system:

You might want to consider looking into a SSD also.

Trying to upgrade to 8gb on a Dell studio 1558 as well, why doesn't Dell memory selector site support this model? They only support 1535, 1536, 1537 & 1555....no 1558. Also, what is the spec on this memory (e.g. buffering, ecc, v).

As Dell doesn't have this laptop on their memory selector, can anyone recommend memory that has worked with this laptop.

Thanks,

I have a studio 1558.  I've tried two different types of RAM,  4G x2 kits, both say they fit my computer.  64 bit processor and OS.  Both times I can't get windows to start.  I'm not sure where to go next

Did you update the BIOS to the latest version? Is the RAM Crucial RAM?

The BIOS is up to date.  The RAM is not Crucial.  Is that the only brand that will work?

I'm suffering almost the same problem. I'm trying to install a 4 Gb Kingston module (KVR16LS11/4) and can't load Windows. It passes the boot, but when Win 10 starts, it re-boots automatically.

Putting back the old modules (2 x 1 Gb) works fine.

Anyone knows if there is any incompatible issue with Kingston KVR16LS11/4?
