What's the best CPU for my Vostro 1510?

Hello!

I want to upgrade the CPU of my Vostro 1510, it now has an Intel Core 2 Duo T5670 (1.8GHz). I would like to know what's the best CPU for this laptop, can you tell me? ( I don't know the exact motherboard model)

Also, the laptop has 3GB of RAM,  I would like to know if it will support 4GB of RAM with another CPU? and if it's possibe to upgrade to Windows 7 64 bits ( it has Windows 7 32 bits)

Thank you very much!

Hi Michelleacc

Thanks for writing to us.

Following processors are compatible.

T5870,2.0,2MB 800MHz

T7250,2.0,2MB 800MHz

T8300,2.4,3MB 800MHz

T9300,2.5,6MB 800MHz

T9500,2.6,6MB 800MHz

T8100,2.1,3MB 800MHz

with regards to memory you can go to a max of only 4GB.

Did the machine come with windows 7 from factory?

You're not going to see enough of a boost from any CPU you can use to justify the cost and time it'll take to replace the CPU - and even with 4G and a 64-bit OS, you just won't gain much over what you have.

The single best bang for the buck is to replace the hard drive with a solid state drive (assuming you haven't already).  That will make much more of an impact than any CPU or memory (or OS) upgrade you can do.

There are complete, used Vostro 1510s on EBay for between $60 and just over $100 - it makes little sense to put a lot of funds into a system this old.

Thank you!

I know it makes little sense, the thing is that I live in Venezuela and everything here is really hard to get/buy, we have a huge economic crisis now. So the best thing I can do is trying to chance the CPU, which is not so expensive if I purchase it used. I need the 64bits OS because of a program that I need to use that requires 64 bits. Of course I would like to buy a new computer but it's impossible for me to buy one here.

Thanks for the advice about buying  the SSD,  I've been thinking about it too.   I'll try to buy one, but they are really expensive too.

Thanks!
