Will Not Boot

Hi all

I have a problem with a dell Inspiron 1545

Started
having problems with down loading windows up dates.

Been though reset to earlier time and system restore points.

Then
it stopped working completely,

Going
through a system diagnostics, only to say it can't fix problem automatically.

Tried
the hard drive recovery method, but still no luck, computer seems to just hang
with the little circle going round and around.

Time
to load recover Disks made on purchase of product, still no luck.

Starts
off ok then hangs at 72% complete when reformatting partition.

Try
to do factory reset and I get an error code 0X400110020000100A.

Any
one help as the machine was preloaded with windows 7 and I do not know quite
how you go about reloading the OS without Paying for it again

P.S

How
do I get the OEM recovery disks, as my copies maybe corrupt?

Sounds like you have a bad hard drive.  Did you run the extended test (takes a couple of hours)?

F12 at powerup.

It needs to be done manually, from your datasafe backup or your Windows disc.  If you did not make one at system arrival time, and are in the US, see

support.dell.com/.../backupcd_form

Outside the US, call Dell.

Hi,

Welcome to the Community.

Sorry to hear about the problem you are facing with the computer.

It all started with the windows updates, so it’s not a hardware issue. I would suggest you to first disconnect the external peripherals first and then do flee power. To do flee power you need to remove battery and power adapter and then hold the power button down for more than 30seconds.Now plug back the power adapter and restart the system.

Once you are successful with powering on and system loading, try doing a system restore.

Try these steps it should work.

Please reply with anymore queries.

Thanks and Regards

Yes,  you have a bad hard drive.  Replace it with a new one.

Ran the extended tests,at the end it says pre-boot system assessment complete. no diagnostic utility partition identified.

please select ok to reboot your system.

when I do this I now get a black screen saying, No boot sector on internal hard drive.

no bootable devices--strike F1 to reboot,F2 for setup utility Press F5 to run onboard diagnostics.

when I try any of these things it comes back to the above screen.

what do you think, still the hard drive ?

Regards zabbaz

Update on Dell 1545

Got in touch with Dell told them about my problem.

they did not think it was the hard drive

I had lost the boot sector on the OS.

they sent me new OS disk (windows 7) and driver disk, I had to pay for them.

they arrived the very next day by ups.

I loaded the OS and drivers,no probs.the lap top now works as new.

well Done Dell.

ps. Im so glad I back up all my data.
