XPS 15 9560 Question

Just got a fully loaded XPS 15 9560.  Question is, can the hard drive, memory or graphics card be updated on this laptop?

The hard drive and RAM can be upgraded, the graphics can not be.

If i already have 32GB, how much more memory can be added?  Also what size drive can be added?

32gb of RAM is the maximum officially supported. Until 32 sticks are released and someone decides to test them. It's unknown if the system will unofficially handle more than 32gb. There should be no limit to the size of the ssd, only by how much you are willing to spend ;)

Last question MosGuy, i went on Crucial.com and it said this memory was compatible with the XPS, looks like the stock memory is 2400 and this is 2600, will it work?

Thanks!

If you have the 5x w-hr battery, you have space for one M.2 card and one 2.5" SATA drive.

If you have the 8x w-hr battery, you have space for one M.2 card and no other drives.

You can fit any capacity M.2 PCIe drive in 2280 format -- and as above with the smaller battery can also have a 2.5" drive as well, any capacity that will physically fit the system (7 mm or slimmer in height).

Orlando,

Technically higher speed RAM modules will run at a slower speed to match the board. You don't gain anything by buying it and it usually costs more. I would stick to a kit that matches the board speed. Such as:

1) www.crucial.com/.../CT9926198

2) www.crucial.com/.../CT9926180

Most users of the previous 9550 model bought the standard kit #2. But they should all work fine.

You have no control over RAM clock and latencies in the 9560, so whatever the processor and RAM negotiate themselves is used. Most folks believe 2400 is max in the 9560, some say have tested 2800 sticks which actually ran at 2400. However at Userbenchmark there are a few highest RAM scores in 9550 and 9560 at 2666, all of them with G.SKILL 2666 2x16GB sticks. No idea if other 2666 sticks can work at their nominal clocks, this may depend on the latencies. And whether BIOS tweaking was needed for the seen 2666 clocks.

One can probably find better ways of spending money than on "performance" RAM. The advantage of faster RAM clocks / lower latencies are visible in RAM benchmarks and certain very specific computing tasks, but there is usually 1%-or-so improvement in combined performance tests.
