encryption on latitude 6420 sloooow

I have a new latitude 6420 with win7/64. I enabled the encryption, and DELL protection tells me that the status of the accelerator is OK (green check mark in front of "Encryption Accelerator Status). However, the computer has now spent about 8 hours to encrypt something like 120 GB on the HD, and it is 16% done.

Is that normal? What sort of a performance penalty do I have to expect when the encryption is done?

Also (and this has nothing to do with the accelerator), the system is extremely slow when coming out of hibernation. A fresh start takes about a minute, coming back from hibernation 4-5 minutes (all of this before encryption was enabled). That doesn't sound right, does it?

Just a quick update. My laptop now had 3.5 hours more to crunch the data non-stop and without interruption, and it stands at a whopping 27%. That's 11% in 3.5 hours....
