inspiron-15 gaming-7567 M2 ssd question

Hi there,

Bought a Inspiron 15 Gaming a week ago with the i7 7700HQ kaby lake cpu,

Comes with:

Intel core  i7 7700HQ kaby lake cpu

16GB DDR4

256GB SSD + 1TB Hard drive

Geforce GTX 1050 ( appears to be a 1050 ti on my order comfirmation ).

1080p screen.

The real question is: Is it upgradeable to a Nvme M2 ssd later on ?, because the 4k screen version with the 512GB ssd has a nvme version in it.

Hope the 15 gaming does work pretty well.

Using a 17R 5720, which is 4 years and 5 months old, but still good battery life. Just lacks of the SATA3 msata and a good graphics chip.

I agree on the fix, my system (960 EVO) is finishing the install of Windows I tried last night.  I checked for an update before I went to bed but it wasn't up yet.

Good Job, Dell.....!

Now all I have to do is Reset the system using the Win 10 recovery drive and I will be back to an OEM configuration..

Please let me know if the Samsung NVMe drive works fine after bios update.

Only thing that dell says:

Fixes:

- Not Applicable.

Enhancements:

- Updated SATA AHCI mode Support.

I have just ordered the 960 EVO 250GB and i'm getting it tomorrow, so i can you guys updated with this.

The current Sandisk M.2 ssd is a bit slow sometimes and usage at 99%.

Good news to all people here,

The 960 EVO works just fine in the 7567 now :). You just need to set it to AHCI mode and windows 10 installs and runs just fine.

I also have Samsung's NVMe driver installed to.

Only thing i don't like is that it goes into SupportAssist GUI when rebooting into windows. And then says Video FAN failed or something like that. Fans still work, so i don't know why it does this after the bios update.

Tried AHCI mode? I get the full 3200mb/s read and 1500mb/s write as advertised.

If your response was for me, I turned off McAfee and got just over 3000 MB/s read and 1761 MB/s write.

Sorry, but just to clarify, you are running an NVMe drive on a laptop that originally came without one, after the bios update?

Just asking, because I too just bought a 7567 with a regular TN panel, 128GB+1TB drive config. I have a few SATA SSDs lying around and was wondering what my upgrade options were.

Thanks,

Anuj

Indeed, you have to set it to AHCI to get it working on Windows 10 installation..

Still getting the full 3.2GB/S read speed as advertised.

Just update to the latest bios version to get your 960 Evo working.

Can you please tell me the brand name of SSD came with this build? Is it Samsung?

The stock M.2 SATA drive is Sandisk X400 on mine.

I have been using the NVMe Samsung drive now for almost 2 months and it works great.

Even my older laptop with SATA 3 SSD is faster on start up, but who cares, it's a SSD and not a Mechanical hard drive.

Thought I'll put in a warning here - my 7567 does not work with 2.5" Intel 535 SSD 480GB, sometimes BIOS shows it and sometimes not, and it never showed up in Windows 10 Disk Management. The 535 was brand new and I tested it with USB3 enclosure, partitoned and formatted it on my desktop PC, put some files on it, still no go. Had to put back the 1TB HDD for now. I will try with 2.5" Crucial MX300 SSD 525GB maybe next.

My 7567 came with BIOS 1.0.5 and the m.2 SSD is Liteon cv3-8d128-11 SATA 128GB drive.

Edit: Installed MX300 in the 7567 and that works. Intel 535 is now in the desktop PC where the MX300 used to be and no problems there.

Just recieved my 7567 and I'm trying to install a 960 Pro.. Are you guys using the dell recovery image from the dell site, or the Windows 10 recovery media builder to install your new drive?

I tried the dell recovery, but it gave errors no matter what I tried..

I've updated to the latest BIOS and the drive is seen in BIOS as well..

I use the Win 10 Recovery Media and select Recover from drive.  Of course the SATA needs to be set to AHCI if you use the NVMe controller and you have to install with the UEFI configuration.  After install is complete, install the Samsung driver.

The Dell image does not seem to put the install back to a Factory configuration but the Win 10 recovery does.

Please download a iso image from microsoft website and install that. Don't use the iso from Dell itself, it's also a clean install of Windows 10, but way outdated.

Recently ( couple of days ago ) i have downloaded and reinstalled Windows 10 with creators update ISO from microsoft website.

Same goes for my chinese Chuwi tablet with Windows 10 Home, I wonder if that's a pain in the *** to do so.
