microphone not working after driver reinstall

Which hardware test did you do, the external mic test in the audio section of Dell Diagnostics interactive test (F12 during startup)?

If the mic failed this test either the mic or the computer is broken. If the computer and you are under warranty, then you should contact Dell to get it repaired.

Hi Jim, I accessed the hardware test, under the voice tab in the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties. Thank you for your help, Liz

Failure of the test you used could be due to software failure. I would use the test I mentioned instead because failure in it is only due to hardware failure.
