Can I upgrade my Dell XPS M1730 from windows vista to Windows 7 or 8?
Hi all
I am in doubt if I can upgrade my windows vista 64 bit to windows 7 or 8? If yes, can I just buy an upgrade from any software supplier or do i have to source it through Dell shop?
Thanks in advance for your time and answers

Thanks kindly. But aren't there any specific Dell features that I will loose if just bying the Win 8 from any supplier? Or are these Dell features not so speciel that I can't live without them?

Hi Ronindk, did you ever upgrade your m1730?
I'm running a copy of Win7 on my m1730. windows update located several of the drivers it needed. And dell.com support under "downloads and drivers'
had stuff for Vista 64, that worked to clean up the Device Manager asteriks for unknown devices. ( Usually the Ricoh Drivers and the Intel chipset drivers)
The small Logitech LCD will lose its software but I found that Logitech USB keyboards had a file that could restore functionality to it. I think if you could go
from a Home Premium version to a higher Home Premium version, you could retain many of the Dell things that shipped with your laptop. Im trying it tonite on a Dell Studio 1737.....Initally I went straight from Vista 64 H Prem, to Win7 Pro but it wouldnt do an "upgrade" I had to do a "clean install". So I lost all the Dell stuff and the Creative audio stuff etc, etc, So i ran the recovery and went back to Vista64H Prem. Now im going to try a copy of W-7 Home premium and see what Dell software survives.

Hi
Yes, I did actually upgrade to windows 8 ultimate without any problems and without loosing any device functionalitites. Or at least I have not yet found anything that did not work. So I am quite pleased with the upgrade. :-)
