Hi dell computer owner

Welcome to the community.

Sometime your Operating System can have some corruptions which might lead to this error code.

Please follow the following diagnostics.

• Power on the system

• Tap F12 key (couple of times)

• It would give you an option to run the diagnostics for the Hard drive, highlight the option for hard drive and hit the enter key

If the hard drive gives 0142, 0146, 0143 it might be a hard drive issue and you might have to replace the hard drive.

Thank You

Naveen

Error Code 2000-0142

Validation 58853

Msg HDD 0 -SN WD - wxk1a51e8725 Status = 3

Why are there so many drives failing on the N5040 ? Was it just a bad lot or is there some other issues going on that Dell is keeping quiet ?

Hi Rick561,

Hard drive being a mechanical component may fail due to many possible reasons.

If the system is under warranty, you may private message me the service tag of your computer. I have added you as a friend. Please accept my friend request by clicking on my name highlighted in blue and then click on “Friends” tab at the top and then click on “Request to Review” and finally click on “Accept” button.

I am sending you a private message as well. Click on “Inbox” to respond to the message and provide system’s Service Tag and contact details so I may access your system records and check for further course of action. You could also click on Start Conversation to send a private message.

Please reply with information.
