If you're having trouble identifying the correct AC adapter for your Dell, here are some steps you can follow:

  • If your system is still under warranty, we recommend contacting our support team for assistance. You can do this by clicking on "Get Help Now", located at the bottom right corner of this page, for personalized support.

  • If your system is out of warranty, here are a few options:

    • If your system is less than 5 years old, you may still be able to find a compatible adapter on Dell.com by searching for your laptop model.

    • If your system is more than 5 years old, it’s likely that the adapter is no longer available directly from Dell. In that case, you may need to purchase a compatible adapter from a third-party vendor.

    • If you're unsure which adapter is compatible with your system, refer to your system’s User Manual for details under the Power Adapter section.

The service tag is the serial number, though there's no such number on the adapter itself, so there's no way to correlate a single adapter with a single system.

Any official Dell USB-C charger of 65 watts or greater should work with the 5420.

If you mouse over the 'Part Serial Number #1," it will give you a description of what you need for a power supply; the 'serial number' is the PPID (Piece Part Identification) - on the label, typically starts with CN-
