Dell 7490 - Supports PCIe 3 x4 NVMe 1.3 (M key) ?

Hi,

I want to upgrade SSD on my Dell 7490 and I am wondering if that supports Dell PCIe 3 x4 NVMe 1.3 (M key)?

I am planning to purchase HP Ex950 (https://www.amazon.com/HP-EX950-Internal-5MS23AA-ABC/dp/B07MZDXQ6C) if my 7490 supports it.

The 7490 does use an M-key slot, so that SSD will physically fit, but be aware that the 7490 doesn't seem to offer full PCIe x4 performance.  See this thread for more info.

Hi,

I replaced my original Toshiba drive with a Samsung  970 EVO plus 1Tb .  There is a substantial increase in speed overall.

Even though the slot doesn't seem to run at full speed, I don't think the original drive was performing fast enough for the m.2. slot to be the limiting factor.

I did the benchmarks again, and the numbers agreed with the performance boost I felt.  I don't have those numbers at the moment though.

Worth the cost in my opnion.

I also reinstalled Windows 10 from a recovery image from the dell site.  This solved a lot of problems I was having ( and also created a few new ones ) and probably also contributed to the performance increase.

regards

Justin.
