Latitude 7480 keyboard issue (mostly missed keys)

Hello,

I'd like to ask if i am the only one with some issues about the Latitude 7480 keyboard (bios 1.7.3, was the same with 1.8.1 too).

if i type normal (e.g. not very slowly) some keys are missed:

if i have to type "system" it produced sytem (the s is missed). (same behavior is observed in uefi shell, or bios add boot options)

if i have to type cat .. |grep , usually the result of typing is ...|Grep (like i am keeping pressing the shift key..)

 if i have to use ctrl-shift-c / ctrl-shift-v (shortcuts for copy/paste) usually i just get C and V (e.g. ctrl missed)

using shift-ctrl-tab (to scroll between tabs / windows backward) in most cases produces just ctrl-tab (forward scroll)

this happens in linux, both console and Xorg, as well in windows (virtualized guest) and also in bios.

@dshabanin,

I've edited my previous post to include a status update for 5590. I meant to add it in there last week.

What other models does this issue affect?

I have the same issue on Latitude 7380, for me it's manifesting by missing T when typing fast.

I type "BTS" dozens times a day and always end up with "BS", which as you can imagine can cause some stir up...

This is unacceptable, Dell, please fix this!! (I am running BIOS 1.9.3).

We have the same issue with 7480@1.9.3

Additionally my touchpad just out of nowhere stops working for seconds, sometimes more. It just doesn't move. External mouse and trackpoint still works well in these cases.

Same keyboard issue with 7490 on the latest bios as well.

Just try to press 3 key next to each other the same row at the same time. You'll get only 2 of them in some cases. Then try the same but with keys which are not next to each other or not in the same row. Now it gives you three. Another one when you press nbv at the same time, and sometimes you'll get an m along with n,b or v as well.

I hope Dell can fix this by software,  not sure.

It's ridiculous how many fundamental issues we are having with these new supposedly premium models.

Same issue om my new 7390. If i rapidly type 4242424242 etc in succession, I end up with 422422422422422 instead. No issue with an external keyboard.

BIOS update for 7490 is still not available...

I am trashing my latitude 7490 as I can't return it back to dell (the delay is expired), and I would never sell it to anybody.

This laptop has several major issues:

- overheating
- very loud noise when the laptop is in use (even when you only run firefox or file explorer)
- dock USB + Ethernet recovering issues after sleep
- BSOD when writing large files to disk
- keyboard miss keys and change order randomly
- very bad support from dell (more than two month without any fix for this keyboard issue)

No more dell for me.

Thanks Justin. I'll post back once I apply the update. I usually wait about a week before applying any firmware updates just in case there is a major issue that hasn't been identified. I've been burned a few times in the past with the very occasional bad bios update and once with a faulty thunderbolt update.
