Dell Precision 3530, WiFi and TB16 not working correctly

I just bought a 3530 with the higher specs as I wanted to buy a Linux laptop that was tested and that wouldn't give me the  issues that I am now experiencing.

Plugging in the TB16 makes the fan spin up to max and I have not yet made it work. It doesn't matter if I plug in two monitors or not, just the TB16, and the fans will spin at max. I tried to update the grub file like suggested here: https://askubuntu.com/questions/428551/laptop-fan-constantly-running-at-a-high-speed, I tried installing ik8utils like suggested here https://askubuntu.com/questions/419199/which-software-controls-the-fan-on-dell-sputnik
I have also updated the bios settings and changed the security settings like suggested here: https://www.dell.com/community/Linux-Developer-Systems/TB16-Dock-Linux-Support/td-p/5109123/page/5

I update the bios to 1.2.5 without any change.

I cannot have the fan running on constant maximum while trying to work. I need two monitors and the 3530 only has one hdmi port.

Does any one have any suggestions?

A colleague mentioned that the TB16 / Thunderbolt never really worked that great on Ubuntu 16.04 and that an update to 18.04 would make the thunderbolt connection behave much better.

So I updated to 18.04, the Laptop is running good with all default settings when not plugged in to the docking station. When I plugg it in, I get the same issues as before.

Ik8utils does not work as it seems to pulsate the fan instead of rev it down.

This is such a disappointment. Will probably return this.

So I installed Windows 10 for Workstation and get the same results after I have installed all the drivers from the Dell Precision 3530 website.

It makes me both happy and sad. Happy that it might not be a linux issue, sad that it also is present in Windows.

Hey,

I Just got this same fresh new laptop, Dell precision 3530 and its annoying noisy when you connect it to dock using thunderbolt cable. When you disconnect the cable everything works fine. I have not tried updating bios. I'm currently using version 1.1.6, I have tried updating all drivers. The thing is when you rull diagnostics mode by pressing F12 in boot process. Fans go silent and then they start high speed again. I also installed HWMonitor and measured the temperatures and they are 55c ( I'm installing software ) and fans run full speed. But the thing is fans run full speed even on 40c ...

In my setup I have 3 monitors, they are all connected to dock using HDMI/DP/mini DP ports. The laptop display is off and lid closed. I also tried keeping lid open but that did not help. Tomorrow I will try updating BIOS and disconnecting displays.

I seem to have the same issue, fan is is running max all the time.

I also have a Precision 3510 and I can barely hear it.

Must be a system fault.
