It depends on your version, as far as whether or not you have System Guard. I don't use the program, but as I understand it, System Guard is used for blocking unwanted programs and Internet pages. Also see here regarding the System Guard: http://iolo.com/help/smpctc/Tools_Protection_SystemGuard_SystemTrayIcon.htm

The Pro version has a virus scanner. Is that the version that you have? http://www.iolo.com/system-mechanic/pro/#Compare

edd91,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Take a look at what  the Norton forum users say on this issue.

That is correct. It is advisable to disable the System Guard component. If that is running, it seems to conflict with Norton.

If you refer to the information at the link posted above by  DELL-Jesse L  there is a screenshot showing the Start-Disable button.

If it was configured to be enabled at startup that will happen. Otherwise, you will have to disable System Mechanic's guard manually when necessary.

A more permanent solution would be to remove the program and use something that does not conflict with your anti-virus.

That most likely would be to click on its icon in the system tray (down by your clock). You may have to experiment to see if it is a right-click or left-click. See if the guard can be disabled from there.
