P2715Q (DP4K60) & Surface Pro Blinks Off/On

I have a Dell P2715Q (DP4K60) monitor connected to a Surface Pro (newest version) Intel Core i7 / 512GB SSD / 16GB RAM via display port through a Surface Dock. I'm running Windows 10 Pro version 1709 build 16299.251.

If I run an 'extended' desktop, the external monitor will blink off then on frequently to the point of being unusable. This behavior seems to occur coincident with an action in another program like clicking a link in a browser. However, it will also occur when the cursor is idle.

I can avoid the problem almost entirely if I only display the desktop on one display at a time. The blink off/on will still occur, but rarely. The display on the Surface Pro never does this.

Any ideas?

Thank you Chris. A technician from Microsoft pointed me to newer Intel Graphics drivers that were not being installed via Windows Update.

Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows
Version: 15.65.4.4944 (Latest) Date: 2/13/2018
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27484/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-15-65-

These appear to have done the trick. I have not had any display issues since I loaded the drivers yesterday. I'm running at 60 Hertz.

Remove the Surface Dock from this troubleshooting.

* Turn the SP (Surface Pro) off
* Disconnect the SP from the dock
* The SP is plugged into its power supply
* Connect the P2715Q directly to the SP =
SP mDP (Mini DisplayPort) out port --> P2715Q mDP to DP cable --> P2715Q DP in port
* Turn the SP on
* Turn the P2715Q on

Now, test the P2715Q using both 60Hz and 30Hz.

60Hz =
* Press the Menu button to open the OSD (On Screen Display)
* Go to Display -MST
* Change to Off = 4k2k 3840x2160 60Hz

30Hz =
* Press the Menu button to open the OSD (On Screen Display)
* Go to Display -MST
* Change to Primary = 4k2k 3840x2160 30Hz

Does it blink in both Hz settings?

Awesome! Thanks for posting this. Should assist other SP4 users.

Hi Chris,

Same situation for me with the P2715Q and identical version of the SP. Driver installation failed because it wasn't compatible with my system? Any suggestions?

Cheers,

Rony

You may also have to drop the refresh rate to 30 Hertz.
